Different Outcomes... Same Level of Care
Two recent clients’ experiences remind us of how important it is for Stanton Healthcare to stand in the gap for vulnerable women in the High Desert. Not every story ends with a healthy baby and happy mother, but every client who enters the Stanton Mobile encounters love and compassion regardless of her circumstances.
Mandy’s Story
“Mandy” was a young woman who arrived at the Mobile with her boyfriend and her mom. Roxy, Stanton’s Client Care Coordinator, gave Mandy an opportunity to share her story, then provided a pregnancy test and ultrasound exam with Blanca, our sonographer. To Roxy and Blanca’s surprise, in the middle of the ultrasound exam, Mandy suddenly admitted that she had already taken the abortion pill. It became clear the baby was no longer living. Roxy and Blanca did not respond with judgment, but instead encouraged Mandy to talk through her pregnancy and abortion decision.
She shared that her boyfriend’s mom was the one to buy the abortion pill and made her take it. Mandy’s mother, who was present, said she was against the decision to abort but was supportive of her daughter. Mandy’s boyfriend was disappointed in the decision. This family was clearly struggling with the enormity of the situation, and Mandy was obviously already full of regret for her hasty choice. She felt guilt and shame, but Roxy responded with compassion and educated Mandy about the rest of the abortion process and provided her with resources for follow-up care. But most importantly, Roxy was able to share the love, forgiveness and grace of Christ with Mandy and her family.
Samantha’s Story
“Samantha”, a young woman in her 20s, walked into Planned Parenthood with her mother one day, seeking an abortion. She had questions, though, and wanted to speak with someone who could help her. She thought Planned Parenthood was the place to go.
However, after waiting for quite some time to be seen at Planned Parenthood, “Samantha” finally gave up and walked out the door. Love Life sidewalk advocates were able to speak with her, found out she was considering abortion, and directed Samantha to the Stanton Mobile parked nearby.
At the Mobile, Samantha was welcomed with a smile, and she was seen by our clinic team right away. The Stanton team listened to her concerns and encouraged her to express her thoughts and fears about having a baby, and they were able to provide her with real solutions. It was a glorious moment when Samantha made the decision to choose life for her baby, there in the Mobile, because she felt empowered and supported!
Samantha is continuing on in our StantonCare program, provided with ongoing resources and support, as her pregnancy progresses. She is just one of many women whose lives, and the lives of their babies, have been profoundly impacted because the Stanton Mobile was open!
