Crossing Things Off!

Dear Friend,

Generally, letters from the IRS are not a welcome sight. A recent bundle of mail included one such letter addressed to Stanton, and I opened it with some trepidation.

I was shouting "Hallelujah!" by the time I got to the second line.

8 months after we submitted our detailed application to the IRS, the parent corporation of Stanton SoCal, Love Mercy, was approved for 501(c)(3) status - we are officially a tax-exempt corporation.

We have still received so much support from the community during this transitional time, and our donations have not been obviously affected by the delay. However, 501(c)(3) status is required by San Bernardino County to move forward with clinic licensing. We couldn't even submit an application without that designation, but now that we have the IRS letter, we are one huge step closer to licensing the Mobile!

The Mobile outside Blessed Junipero Serra in Phelan

Our current Mobile Licensing List looks something like this:

  • Mobile Exterior Wrap
  • 501(c)(3) approval
  • California Tax Franchise Board approval
  • Medical Director
  • Radiologist
  • Ultrasound Machine

Stanton has the volunteers ready and waiting, the Mobile is nearly complete inside, and there are clients to serve in the High Desert! Just a few items remain, and I am asking for your help as we finish off this crucial list.

First, do you know a local (San Bernardino County-based) medical doctor who may be willing to support our ministry as Medical Director? Any life-affirming doctor with experience in the OB/GYN field is welcome - family practice, ER, etc.

We are unable to open a clinic without the covering of a Medical Director. Please contact me directly if you know of a local physician who may be interested in supporting our efforts in this crucial way!

Second, a radiologist is required for us to operate our ultrasound machine in the clinic. The radiologist reviews all ultrasound scans, providing professional backup for our nurses and sonographers. Again, please ask around and pass on our info!

Finally, our ultrasound machine item should really be halfway crossed off in the list above. At last count, the Knights of Columbus (led by Assembly #2664 in Hesperia) have raised over $12,000 toward the purchase of a brand-new portable ultrasound machine for Stanton SoCal.

The Knights have rallied support from all over the High Desert, laypersons and clergy alike coming together to stand with Stanton in a very tangible way. The ultrasound machine fund was boosted in May by a large donation of $5,000 by St. Joseph's Church in Barstow - a huge step toward our goal!

If you are able to contribute toward the Knights' ultrasound fund, please contact George Small at (760) 249-5069. Widow's mites are welcome! We know God will bless each and every donor as they respond to this need. Thank you, Knights!

As always, please continue to keep Stanton SoCal in your prayers as we push forward, working under God's grace to reach the goal of a licensed, operational Stanton Mobile Clinic. We see the effects of your prayers every day, and are thankful for the many friends and supporters who make this possible. We will see the vision come to fruition soon!

Please refer to the right column for our ongoing list of needs, and prayerfully consider partnering with us through a donation of your resources. Stanton needs more monthly partners if we are to successfully put the Mobile on the road, and you are invited to join that crucial team.

And thanks to one little letter, I can now officially say those magic words: all donations are tax-deductible!

Watch out - I might start shouting again.

For Life!

Director, Stanton SoCal

Calling all volunteers, crafters, and shoppers!

The Stanton Mobile is steadily progressing toward a spring launch, and we are busy here at Stanton SoCal working to line everything up for a smooth debut!  Read on for updates and urgent needs:

Mobile Wrap

Michael at Tri-Community Auto Body has been busy scraping the old Winnebago decals from the exterior of our Mobile for the past week.  His generosity will keep our brand new wrap free from bumps and lines, for which we are very thankful.  And speaking of the wrap, our anticipated start date on the installation is March 24!  In just a few short weeks, the exterior will finally match the interior – beautiful and inviting.

Upcoming Volunteer Training

Client Advocate Training

This two-day training, along with Pro-Life 101, is required for all client advocates who serve with Stanton SoCal.  Client advocates will counsel clients who are facing an unexpected pregnancy, provide information regarding options of abortion, parenting or adoption, and follow up with the clients after counseling.

When: 6:00-9:00 pm on Friday, May 9 and 9:00 am – 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 10

Where: Wrightwood

Curriculum: Intimacy Before Impact (by Life International)

What You Need to Do:  RSVP via our online contact form by April 15, as we need to order the appropriate number of training manuals.  Volunteer applications must also be completed and submitted by April 15.

This training is an important step for all our client advocates, but taking the class doesn't obligate you to volunteering with Stanton. Past participants have all said that what they learned in the class has been immensely helpful in all areas of their lives (i.e. communicating with their spouses, children, etc.), but we do hope we can put you on the schedule for the Mobile as soon as it is on the road!

The cost of the training manual is $25.00 and we are suggesting a donation to cover the cost for your manual.

Please note: This training will not be offered again for 6-9 months.  If you are even considering serving as a client advocate this year, please make plans to attend the May training session.

Pro-Life 101

This training session is required for all who would like to serve with Stanton in the Mobile or in any of our community programs.  The training takes just 2 hours of your time, but it will better equip all our volunteers to serve in the unique area of pro-life ministry.

Topics include: articulating the pro-life position, abortion history and types of abortion, sexual integrity, Stanton’s position and perspective on the issues, and a review of important resources for all volunteers.

When: 6:30-8:30 pm on Wednesday, April 9

Where: Wrightwood

What You Need to Do:  RSVP via our contact form by April 1.  Please bring your completed Volunteer Application on April 9 as well!  If you are unable to attend on this date, simply let us know and we are able to schedule additional dates as necessary.

Client Care Donations Needed

Patti is gathering items for Stanton Client Care Packages in preparation for the Mobile’s launch, and you can help!  We want to bless every client who enters the Mobile, and one of the physical ways we can do that is by offering Client Care Packages.  Already, several talented ladies in the community have contributed baby blankets, quilts, booties and hats, and we are so excited to share these sweet items with expectant moms through Stanton.  Please continue to knit and quilt away, friends!

If you are not a crafter but would like to participate in the packages, we also need the following items: $5 gift cards (Jamba Juice, Bath & Body, etc.); small personal care gifts (lotion sets, nail polish, etc.); diapers (newborn); anything else that might bless a Stanton client and fit in a small bag – we will pass it along to the Stanton PRC in Crestline if it does not work for our Mobile packages.  Thank you!

Where We Stand: A Mobile Update

A small update for our faithful friends who are praying and donating toward the launch of Stanton's Mobile Medical Clinic:

  • While we have not reached our goal of $2500 in monthly support, the commitments that have been made currently cover the Mobile's insurance premium.  For that we are thankful, as it will allow us to use the remaining renovation funds to complete the interior of the Mobile.
  • The Wrap Fund has reached $420 as of Sunday, February 2.  This is a good start toward our goal of $5000, but we continue to pray that the remainder will be provided soon.
  • The Knights of Columbus in Victorville (Assembly #2664) are working fast and furiously to raise the funds for our ultrasound machine through their Ultrasound Initiative.
  • Finally, we have two upcoming Orientations which will introduce local pro-lifers to the work of Stanton in the Tri-Community.  All are welcome, whether interested in volunteering, donating, praying or simply curious about Stanton's programs and the Mobile.  The Orientations take place beginning this weekend, so visit Event Registration to learn more; we hope to see you there!

Please consider making a donation today toward the Mobile.  The sooner we reach our goals, the sooner we can hit the road and begin serving women with love and compassion.  Monthly commitments allow us to better plan and maximize our impact, so please consider partnering with us in this important work today!
